Olivos

ADOPT AND MANAGE YOUR OWN OLIVE TREE!

Due to the heavy rainfall, we expect a good olive harvest in early November.

Did you know you can adopt an olive tree for FREE?

How does that work?

THESE ARE THE STEPS:

  • Come to Ukulandia/Buena Vista
  • Walk through the garden
  • Find a tree
  • Put your name on it
  • Clear the ground around it
  • Pick/shake the olives
  • Prune the tree!
  • Go to the olive press
  • Celebrate the Harvest! (Diwali)

The weight of your harvest is pressed into oil.

We jointly pay for the olive press.
Yield: approximately 20L per 100kg

Overnight stays are by donation!

We’ve only picked olives once. But it was extremely satisfying and relaxing.

Tree Yoga is definitely worth trying.

Pruning

After the olives have been picked from the tree, the tree must be pruned to ensure an even better yield the following year. This also makes the olives easier to pick.

Pruning a tree seems te be easy. They say it is like pruning an apple tree. You have to be able to see through it and remove all the branches that go straight up. Let’s study it again before November.

Harvest Celebration

The olive harvest usually takes place in late October or early November and will be wonderful to celebrate together.

During the same period, depending on the new moon, the Hindus celebrate the harvest festival “Diwali.” It goes back to ancient India, where it originated as a harvest festival. Over time, it evolved to incorporate religious, cultural, and historical elements. Today, Diwali is best known as the “festival of lights.” The light symbolising the triumph of light over darkness, but also good over evil, knowledge over ignorance and spiritual awakening that dispels the darkness of the mind.

This idea inspires us to have a joyful celebration with all olive tree caretakers and to be grateful after the successful olive harvest.

… and we must not forget to worship Lakshmi, the goddess with the four arms! She is associated with Diwali as being the goddess of light, wealth and happiness, but also of beauty, courage, fertility and love. The lights will be lit to welcome her and thus bring prosperity into our lives.

Later more about her 4 arms…
